Radisson Blu Ikeja: What Are You Doing This Evening?
Radisson Blu Hotel
Isaac John Road
Ikeja GRA, Lagos
Latest Hotel opening in Ikeja Gra. I actually didn't go here for the longest time, until an uncle said he enjoyed the food here. Since then, I have acquainted myself with the Afro-Fusion Bar and Iyeru-Okin, not had time to check the third spot here.
Food
Bar - I have a soft spot for the bar area; comfy seating, good music, slightly extensive drinks menu and bar bites. Last time I was there, ordered Chicken Wings, Pork chops, the Club Sandwich and some funky drink called Bourbon Ginger Snap (I quite liked it).
Chicken wings and Pork chops were half Tatashe smudged and half Barbecue sauce rubbed, pepper dropped me after a while and became a struggle to finish. The Club Sandwich on the other hand is pretty good, I have had it twice now.
Iyeru Okin
A friend passed an exam, so we decided to celebrate the achievement by having Sunday Brunch here. Had to wait a few moments for them to setup and we were called in. Typical brunch setting with good options to suit everyone, healthy gang and carnivores alike. Some cake in the dessert section wasn't properly labelled that it included nuts, so watch out for that if you're allergic.
However, I did find that some food offerings were not Nigerian styled tasting. You know how you eat Nigerian party rice and meat; that explosion of Maggi (or any taste enhancer) and Pepper you get with every bite, didn't get that here. My guess is that they made it neutral so it is acceptable to everyone, will try it again soon and update this if its different.
Update: Had breakfast there, and I'm fully certain it's not for me. For breakfast buffet, I'd stick to Sheraton Hotel on the mainland.
Ambience
Renaissance Hotel is a beautiful place, and it being new means everything still shines. I particularly like their porcelain floor marble options. The Bar has a lot of Nigerian fused offerings; in the food and drinks, and also the Art. Iyeru-Okin offers live band during brunch. If you make eye contact with the lady singing, she's going to come serenade you lol.
Cost
Bar Bites cost on average N4,500 and drinks go anywhere from Star Beer at N1500 to Bottles of Champagne prices. Iyeru-Okin was N9,500 per person, and it came with Water and Orange Juice. For a top hotel, I suppose the prices are reasonable. Wouldn't mind more options being offered at Iyeru-Okin though.
Experience
GRA Ikeja doesn't really have many places you can just go chill and relax in the evening after work, thank heavens for the hotels providing these spaces. Make sure you take a picture with the massive artwork in the lobby area, someone told me it is tradition to do so. 👍
